PREPARE your child for PRIMARY 1:
WRITE WELL! Enhance your child’s writing skills.
READ AND UNDERSTAND WELL!
LITTLE READERS Programme in Sengkang is intended for children between 6 and 8 years old. The programme allows already skilled readers to further develop their reading comprehension, thanks to Catherine Mendoza’s proven teaching method.
Teachers have recognized that it is important to show children the depth within storytelling and also to train them to distinguish when creativity is acceptable and when the situation calls for the truth.
Studying creative writing assists children with reading comprehension, promotes the creation of unique ideas and improves their ability to solve problems. These skills, along with imagination, are all key to the work of product developers, inventors and scientists.
When writing fiction with other worldly creatures, a child is forced to convince the reader that such a creature could actually exist. This requires the child to compose in-depth descriptions for the creature as well as actions and even temperaments in order to prove to anyone reading that that creature is possible.
Even though allowing the imagination to run rampant seems counterproductive to encouraging self-control, most writers would agree that taking your own ideas and putting them down on paper in a way that is realistic and entertaining for others requires extraordinary self-control. Your thoughts must be organized, succinct and distinct.
It is common for both children and adults alike to have difficulty putting their thoughts into words, but writing creatively requires exactly that. Children can take their worries and troubles and put them into a third-person point of view, which can aid them in seeing the problem objectively.
By being allowed to freely choose the topic, children can practice proper grammar and spelling without it feeling like a chore. They learn to place commas in between adjectives, begin new paragraphs for different topics and finish their thoughts with a period.
